Discussing issues and opportunities at ECABC Vancouver reception
November 17, 2023 | By Anthony Capkun
November 17, 2023 – Vancouver-area electrical professionals and related stakeholders from across BC’s electrical construction sector had the opportunity to network and discuss issues and opportunities while at a Meet & Greet Reception, hosted by the Vancouver Chapter of the Electrical Contractors Association of British Columbia.
What “issues and opportunities” are on the minds of BC’s electrical pros?
“The two top areas of concern for most electrical contractors right now are BC’s lack of prompt payment information, and the short- and long-term availability of electricians and electrical apprentices,” said Matt MacInnis, association president, without hesitation.
“British Columbia continues to have a high number of projects which require the expertise of electricians—everything from residential, LNG Canada, Site C, multiple hospital projects, etc.—and 2024 is expected to continue to see this high demand.”
The Meet & Greet Reception is hosted by the Vancouver Chapter every few years, MacInnis explained, adding that ECABC hosts nearly 20 events annually, including Chapter meetings, industry socials and charity golf tournaments.
“That’s in addition to our feature event—our annual general meeting and conference—which took place this year in Whistler and included an address by BC Energy, Mines and Low-Carbon Innovation Minister Josie Osborne,” MacInnis added.
The reception also featured a keynote speech from Eric Termuende, who shared his perspectives on the future of work and the importance of strong teams, and shared some advice on how successful leaders have built effective workplace cultures.Print this page
